Manual Baling

Manual baling at Amarnath Yatra 2025, using robust manual baling machines, would be a critical component of waste management, especially for dry, recyclable waste like plastic bottles, wrappers, and cardboard. At various collection points along the challenging pilgrimage routes and within base camps, sanitation workers would gather segregated dry waste. This material would then be fed into the manual balers, where operators would use human force, typically through a lever or screw mechanism, to compress the waste into dense, manageable bales. Once sufficiently compressed, these bales would be secured with wires or straps. This on-site baling significantly reduces the volume of dry waste, making transportation more efficient and cost-effective in the difficult terrain. The compacted bales, much easier to handle and store than loose waste, could then be efficiently transported to Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) or recycling units outside the sensitive Yatra zone, ensuring a cleaner environment and contributing to the “zero-landfill” objective of the pilgrimage.
